    ARTIST BIO
    Bertil Alexander Öhlund, born November 17, 1923 in Solna, died in 2003 in Brussels, was a Swedish painter, graphic artist and cartoonist. He studied at Otte Sköld's painting school in 1949 and periodically during 1959 and 1951 at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and at André Lhote's painting school in Paris. He was a student at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm 1950–1955. Since 1949, he spent longer periods abroad almost every year and has lived in, among other places, Paris, the South of France, Rome, Florence, Greece and Bulgaria.

    Together with Staffan Nihlén, he debuted with an exhibition at Kristianstad's museum in 1952. Separately, he exhibited at Galerie Creuze in Paris in 1957 and 1961 and at the Museum in Liège in 1958, and he subsequently exhibited separately at several Swedish museums. He exhibited in Örebro in 1960 and together with Sven-Erik Pug Karlsson and Allan Andersson at Färg och Form in Stockholm in 1963 and together with Lasse Holmqvist at Galerie Bleu.

    Öhlund participated in Sweden's general art association's salons in Stockholm, Liljevalch's art gallery's Stockholm salons and several group exhibitions at Galerie Creuze since 1957. He was represented in the traveling exhibition Hallmark Art Awards which was shown at 36 different American museums in the USA in 1960–1962 and he participated in several group exhibitions in Europe, the United States and the Soviet Union.

    Among Öhlund's public works, a wall painting in lacquer color at the youth farm Förvaltargården in Solna and a decorative painting at m/s Gripsholm are notable. His art consists of an abstract painting with architectural content, landscape depictions done in oil or graphics.

    Öhlund is represented at the National Museum, Moderna Museum,  Örebro County Museum, Hallmark Art Award Museum in New York, the Chamber of Deputies in Brussels and several public institutions in Sweden and abroad.
