Antique Terracotta Encrusted Octopus Pot
*All prices include VAT where applicable*
A wonderful antique terracotta octopus pot salvaged from the seas of the Algarve, Portugal. These pots were traditionally used by fishermen for centuries, before being replaced by modern techniques. Remnants of the original rope used to lower and raise the pot still surround it.
Organically and texturally encrusted with sea life accumulated during many decades under the sea, it is now a stunning, sculptural natural artifact, and exceptional decorative piece.
Measurements (including encrustations):
Height: 33 cm
Width: 23 cm
Dia. of rim: 13 cm
All measurements are approximate.
This pot has been kept in as-found condition with all its organic, natural undersea accumulations and associated wear and ageing, including some old cracks. Stands with a slight lean due to encrustations on the base, which could be scraped off if desired. Note there is a hole in the base which was designed to allow water to pass through when lowered and raised.
Very delicate and fragile in nature, some of the encrustations may be organically loosely attached and so some minor loss is possible during transit. It will be packaged with the greatest of care, however please be mindful of this. Please refer to photos.
