French Mid-Century Abstract Cubist Oil Painting

A French mid-century cubist abstract painting on canvas featuring a wonderful earthy yet vibrant palette of blue, green and brown tones and framed in a black tray frame. It is believed to be the work of Marceau Constantin (1918-2017). Unsigned, this painting was purchased as part of a collection including signed and unsigned works by the artist. The verso also features an unfinished work of a figure.

Marceau Constantin was originally from Saint-Christol in Provence and built a successful career in France after studying under André Lhote and developed a distinctive cubist style. There is a museum dedicated to his life and work in Saint-Christol.
