French Mid-Century Pique Assiette Planter
A pretty French rectangular pique assiette concrete planter. Adorned on all sides with embedded shards of colourful pottery, tiles and ceramics in a mosaic style. Circa mid-20th century.
Pique assiette is a style of mosaic that incorporates ceramic shards, broken dishes and other found objects into a design. Unlike traditional mosaics created using small cubes that were relatively uniform in shape, pique assiette design tends to use nonuniform pieces. There is a long tradition of using broken and discarded materials to create folk art and each piece is an expressive original.
