A large modernist painting of a figure by Swedish artist Bengt Delefors (1917-1996). A boldly unique and energetic composition complemented by a bright, limited palette of red, yellow and blue. Mid-century. Signed lower left, titled 'Figur' on verso. Presented in its original, artist-made wooden studio frame.

ARTIST BIO
Erik Bengt Torgny Delefors, born March 17, 1917 in Gesäter parish, died April 25, 1996, was a Swedish artist.

Delefors studied at the Konstgillets painting school in Borås 1943-1947, Valand art school in 1948 and for André Lhote in Paris 1949-1953, Académie de la Grand Chaumière in Paris 1950, Enamel technique at Gustavsberg factories 1967.

Together with Georg Andersson he exhibited at Borås art gallery in 1950 and later that year he exhibited together with Nini Landgren  and Stig Delang in Vänersborg, together with Greta Ehrnberg at Lorensbergs konstsalong in 1963 and group exhibitions at Liljevalchs konsthall. He had his first solo exhibition in 1951 at Lilla Galleriet in Stockholm.

Delefors was awarded the French State Cultural Scholarship in 1952, the City of Gothenburg Cultural Scholarship in 1975, and the State Work Scholarship in 1976 and 1980.

Delefors' art consists of expressive figure paintings, intense still lifes and interiors. He is represented at the Moderna Museet, Gothenburg Art Museum, Borås Art Museum, the Swedish Art Council and in several municipalities and county councils.
