    Incredibly rare original Union Jack flag from serving WW2 British Royal Navy ML (Torpedo Boat) No 579. This linen constructed flag features a Union Jack in the centre, with a distinctive large white border. Original stamps to the seam are very clear, dated 1940, the boat number 579, and the maker's stamp 'Porter Brothers Ltd of Liverpool'. It measures 92cm x 122cm. 

    A brief history of the flag:

    ML Torpedo Boat 579 (75t 3/6/43), was sunk by German dive bombing aircraft (a Stuka), Leros Island, Dodecanese, Greece on October 26th 1943. This flag was recovered at the time by other Royal Navy vessels in the area and subsequently became part a British military and navy collection.

    This flag comes with auction house provenance and the paperwork will be included with this sale.
