    ARTIST BIO
    Lars Johan Edvard Sjögren, born August 8, 1931 in Karlstad, died March 8, 2016 in Karlstad, was a Swedish painter, draftsman and graphic artist. 

    Sjögren studied at the Skånska painting school in Malmö in 1949 and then made study trips to France and the Netherlands. He has participated in the collective exhibition Aspect 61 at Liljevalch's art gallery as well as several of Värmland's art association's autumn salons.

    Separately, Sjögren has, among other things, exhibited at Lilla Paviljongen in Stockholm in 1953, Lorensberg Art Salon, Värmland Museum in 1960, Galeri Hybler in Copenhagen, Galerie Riquelme in Paris in 1966 and the Art Gallery in Kristinehamn in 1990. Together with Ingrid Hwatz, he exhibited at Sturegalleriet in Stockholm in 1958. He has participated in group exhibitions with Paul René Gauguin, Herman Reijers and Olof Persson. In the 1950s he shared studio space in Karlstad with Hans Kajtorp, Sven Ekdahl, Sven Frödin, Harry Moberg and Harry Sandberg. Later he worked in his studio at Värmlandsnäs.

    Sjögren has been awarded Värmland's art association's travel scholarship, Karlstad municipality's Fröding scholarship, State work scholarship, NWT's cultural scholarship, Hammarö municipality's cultural scholarship and Värmland's art association's Thor Fagerqvist scholarship.

    Among Sjögren's public works are a relief at Sundsta Badhus in Karlstad, a painted wooden relief at Rud's health center in Karlstad, a mural at Torsby Hospital and the pigeons in stainless steel that sat at Domushuset in Karlstad.

    Sjögren is represented at the Modern Museum in Stockholm, Värmland Museum , Kristinehamn Art Museum and Karlstad municipality.
